New Music Tuesday 12 - Their/They're/There
Posted by Alex Bohea on November 20, 2013
A weekly feature here at The Great Divide Blog is our New Music Tuesday; introducing you to an artist or band you may not have heard of. We can’t guarantee that you won’t have heard of them, but if that’s the case, it might give you a little reminder to revisit them sometime soon.
Okay, so maybe it’s not a Tuesday this week, but I’m sure you’ll forgive me for that. Here’s an awesome band for you title Their/They’re/There who formed as a bit of a supergroup featuring members Evan Weiss from Into It Over It, Matthew Frank from Loose Lips Sink Ships and king of all the emo Mike Kinsella who you’ll know as Owen and previously American Football, Cap’n Jazz and Owls. With such a strong line-up, you know this is going to be good.
While the band could be considered a side project from the mainstays the members partake in, the effort put into the music is certainly anything but. The intricate guitar noodling comes as standard with this sort of band, but I don’t think anybody can do it better than Kinsella. Team this up with some mathy percussion, silver-tongued vocals, a little bit of controlled chaos thrown in for good measure and you’ve got yourself some very catchy jams. Having released their self-titled EP this year, the six songs on it are a sign that there is much more to come with this supergroup and my hope is that this may not stay a side project for much longer. From the chaotic opener, to melodic acoustic jams with harmonizing vocals, the veterans of the scene have proven that they can do pretty much anything and still make you want to take notice. Check out their new song ‘New Blood’, which is part of their forthcoming Analog Weekend EP below and enjoy the awesomeness.
