New Music Tuesday 20 - Weed
Posted by Alex Bohea on February 11, 2014
A weekly feature here at The Great Divide Blog is our New Music Tuesday; introducing you to an artist or band you may not have heard of. We can’t guarantee that you won’t have heard of them, but if that’s the case, it might give you a little reminder to revisit them sometime soon.
Our head honcho, Jim, has a great music taste. So when he recommends a band to me, I presume they’re going to be pretty good. He turned me on to this band, Weed, with a simple instruction. Check out the album artwork and see how many awesome bands it reminds you of. So I did, and well, it worked. Take a look below and if you have a dozen or more album covers like this then you know you’re going to be in for a treat.
Weed (and yes, no other band has actually coined that name until now) is from Vancouver and plays some excellently sludgy grunge that’ll confuse your brain as to whether it wants to melt or groove along simultaneously. Their latest album, Deserve, came out in September last year and is definitely a recommended listen. For a band that thrives on their clear 90’s influence, the melodic undertones of their overly sludgy sounds set them apart from similar bands. Take a listen to a highlight of the album, ‘Gun Shy’, below and click through to go to their Bandcamp.
