New Music Tuesday 11 - Eyedress

Posted by Alex Bohea on November 12, 2013

A weekly feature here at The Great Divide Blog is our New Music Tuesday; introducing you to an artist or band you may not have heard of. We can’t guarantee that you won’t have heard of them, but if that’s the case, it might give you a little reminder to revisit them sometime soon.

The artist for this week as New Music Tuesday hits number eleven is Filipino wonderkid, Eyedress. Having gained quite a bit of attention recently through the music press, Eyedress, or Idris Vacuna as his full name, has just signed to XL imprint Abeano which means that his debut EP is making waves in the industry. Thanks to this EP and the incredibly haunting music video for ‘Nature Trips’, the Philippines is about to gain a new Western celebrity and as Idris puts it himself – he wants to be the second coolest person to come out of the country behind Manny Pacquiao.

His music has that haunting quality that, especially in a genre like Witch House if you could call it that, isn’t out of place but one that takes a certain something to still make funky. Eyedress is able to do both. The fact that he can is pretty amazing considering this EP was made on Fruityloops using a laptop that was handed down to him by his father. His ability for producing chrome-noir pop ala How To Dress Well and Chromatics cannot be faulted and you should get on this before he blows up.

Check out the video for 'Nature Trips' below.
