A new, weekly feature here at The Great Divide Blog is our New Music Tuesday; introducing you to an artist or band you may not have heard of. We can’t guarantee that you won’t have heard of them, but if that’s the case, it might give you a little reminder to revisit them sometime soon.
This week we take a trip over the pond and end up in Boston where you’ll discover Sneeze, a band merging 90’s grunge and garage punk, and punching you in the face with it. Their debut album, I’m Going To Kill Myself, clocks at a frantically chaotic 32 minutes but to be honest, that’s all you need to know that this band are excellent at what they do. While the album name may put you off, and I appreciate that if you grew up with mainstream emo, don’t be dismayed, the album is much deeper than that. With 15 short, punchy tracks, it’s easy to find yourself dreaming of a time when Mudhoney and Nirvana were kings.
In short, there are a lot of bands trying to compete with this sound at the moment. Grunge and especially it’s lo-fi, garage elements are becoming popular again. There are honestly few bands getting it right, but luckily I believe you can count of Sneeze to give you a modern interpretation of the 90’s throwback. Check out ‘Brainage Pipe’ below from their debut album ‘I’m Going To Kill Myself’ which you can pick up from Close to Home Records.
