Patagonia was founded by rock climbing environmentalist Yvon Chouinard in 1973 in Ventura, California. Yvon came over to England in the early 70's and bought a selection of bright coloured rugby shirts to take back to So-Cal to rock climb in. He began to import them to the US and sell them to his rock climbing pals and Patagonia was born. From his small start with the initial rugby shirts, Yvon went on to develop the company and offer a wide selection of rugged technical clothing.

Patagonia have developed into a massive global company and become renown all over the world for their forward thinking technical clothing, with a large emphasis on their commitment to the environment. Since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment.
