The penny loafer was first produced in the mid 1930's by the G. H. Bass shoe company. Bass decided to put a stylish spin on a Norwegian farm shoe design, that was designed for loafing around in the field and dubbed them as Weejuns. The worlds first Penny Loafer was born.
The shoe became popular with the American Ivy League and the mods later on, the Bass Weejun penny loafer looks as good now as it ever did.
