In 1909 Thomas L.Kay and his family moved to Pendleton in northeastern Oregon and took over the defunct Pendleton Woolen Mills and started there business there. Since then Pendleton has become renowned for their Native American inspired blanket designs and durable woollen shirts. Today the company is still privately owned by the family and operates across eight facilities in America.
The Penleton Modern Icon blankets are 163cm x 183 cm. Coming in a fluffy napped wool they feature bold elements from traditional Pendleton patterns in pared-down colour palettes. The result is subtle and sophisticated, modern icons at home in any setting. The Basket Maker is inspired by the Yavapai, or People of the Sun, wove baskets that could hold water. Basket making is similar to jacquard weaving, with strands of many colours creating vivid patterns. Diamond shapes and patterned bands work together to reflect the intricate and timeless art of Yavapai basketry. Felt binding.
