Red Wing was founded in 1905 by Charles Beckman in Red Wing, Minnesota. Mr Beckman saw a need for shoes specifically designed for the demanding work of the local industries such as mining, logging and farming. His aim was to make hardwearing durable footwear, that was also comfortable to wear.
The Red Wing 6" Ice Cutter was built for intense and seemingly endless winters. The story behind the Ice Cutter comes from the bitter north, where the Ice Cutter was built to provide the workers with an insulated boot that had a sole unit capable of gripping ice and snow. When Red Wing introduced this robust style, they made sure to meet the needs of workers who wanted a boot that wore well on both the frozen surface of a remote northland lake whilst stylish enough for every day wear.
The 2931 style features Red Maple Ottertail waterproof leather, natural wool for insulated warmth, Norwegian welt, and a durable Vibram Lug outsole. It’s also inherently water and ice resistant.
