Founded in 1988, Ebbets Field Flannels have become renowned for their ability to manufacture exact replicas of genuine mid-Century American sportswear and caps. Inspired by lesser-known independent league teams and dedicated to using original materials and techniques,

The California Winter League was a semi-pro circuit consisting of company-sponsored teams in Southern California. The Merchants took part in the famous "Flu Mask Game" vs. Standard Oil on January 26th, 1919. After a second wave of Spanish Influenza broke out the city of Pasadena issued a strict mask ordinance on January 18th. Both teams as well as umpires ands managers wore flu masks for the game, which was won by Standard Oil in extra innings. The league played very high-level baseball, and Pasadena's squad included at least seven major leaguers, including Frank Shellenback of the White Sox and Cincinnati's Red Killifer. Among the top players for Standard Oil were Doc Crandall from the Yankees and Chick Gandil of the White Sox.
