New Balance, established in 1906 in Boston, Massachusetts, has a history rooted in improving comfort through innovative footwear design. Original founding father William J Riley initially focused on arch supports, however the company evolved to create running shoes, notably the Trackster in 1961, the first ripple-soled running shoe. Key milestones include the development of the 990 model in the 1980s and the 992 in the 2000s, both representing New Balance's commitment to quality and performance.
